On May 19th, OpenBSD 7.9 was released and, to my surprise, is now accepting AI generated slop since it’s release.

This notice really got me upset because OpenBSD wasn’t on my mental list of software which would accept this sort of shit because of it’s security and simplicity philosophy. OpenBSD was my first advice that we can’t bet that some will still remains in it’s essence.

At this point, protest against slop is the best we can do. There is so many ways we can do that: forking and maintaining a version without slop; creating an alternative to it; boycotting slop softwares by using software without slop; and etc.

A few days ago I discovered a repository on codeberg with tons of famous projects which contains slops - and alternatives to them - and this repository is a good spot to discover which softwares are slop and to find alternatives to it if possible.

I will still on OpenBSD 7.8 and I’ll try to maintain a fork of this version with some modifications - like removing pre-installed slop softwares. If I really do that, you may find the project here.

With my disappointment, I end this article.
